Three months into my Tropic Journey…

To say I was skeptical about joining a social selling company is an understatement. I have said NO to a number of these ‘opportunities’ over the past few years. Since I became a Mum and had to take a ‘break’ from work I’ve had a good few acquaintances try to recruit me into their business, but the thing that always struck me was that they never mentioned the products they were selling, only the opportunity of a flexible career that would allow me to pick up the kids from school and earn a good income…

So, I joined Tropic because I fell in love with the products. No one recruited me, I rang up HQ and asked to join. It would appear that’s rather rare in this selling community, but I’m still so glad that I did. I have done pampers and 1:1’s and am getting involved in raising money this month for the Macmillian coffee mornings. I am really starting to find my mojo with it and I’m having a great time.

I have been to three team meetings and have met some really lovely, clever and inspirational women that I know I will be friends with for a long time. As your business progresses you gain confidence with it, and that’s really important for me having been unable to work for over two years. There’s so much positivity banded about, so many lives changed for the better, so much gratitude and recognition (on Tuesday I left the meeting with 4 goody bags… I never got anything like that in the Police!). There is no room for negative people in Tropic and I for one love that. I can always feel myself dragged down by negativity and I can feel myself getting angry with myself, my kids, my husband, anyone really. I DO NOT NEED NEGATIVITY IN MY LIFE. I’m surrounding myself with positive people here at Tropic and that’s really good for my soul, even the people on the end of the phone at HQ are positive, it must be a company pre-requisite! There is a lot of emphasis on not talking dirty about other companies, just promoting how good Tropic is. Its just nice, really really NICE!

My manager has just achieved an amazing trip to Mauritius. I am so happy for her because she’s worked hard and really deserves it. How many companies do you know that send people off to Mauritius for doing well at work? There are 189 people within the company who have achieved it and I’m so delighted as she will be going on an amazing all expenses paid trip with a load of her mates. That’ll be me next year.

I have also been promoted to Senior Ambassador which has been really lovely as one of my best friends has joined Tropic. I did a pamper for her and she is so in love with the company that she decided she’d like the products cheaper, so signed up! Jessica is so knowledgable about natural skincare that I feel really lucky to have her on my team, I’m learning so much from her and its so nice to have another excuse to talk to her and bounce ideas at the school gates!

So, onwards and upwards. With a positive mindset because that’s the person I want to be, Totally Tropically Tremendous Nat, not Negative Nat.

My first month as a Tropic Skincare Ambassador

I met with my Platinum Manager Debbie and got trained and signed up,  £120 has bought me my starting kit to start sharing the Tropic brand (picture above). It came through the post and had some serious weight to it, excited, just a bit!! So many lovely bits plus a gorgeous bag to put it all in. So far so good.

I got my first few pampers booked before I signed up so I would be raring to go, full steam ahead.

I’ve never been to a girls night like the ones I’m supposed to be running, Tupperware or skincare, so I feel a little out of my depth…

A very good friends Mum held me my first pamper and I was a rabbit in the headlights. There were only five ladies there but I was pretty hopeless! I was giving a facial and telling them all every single ingredient in the products. I was stumbling over my words and passing every single cream I had around to be sniffed and slathered. The evening ended with £120 of sales, which isn’t a disaster but I felt so dejected and useless. Maybe this isn’t for me. Then the online system took me so long to fill in the order… It was after midnight that I went to bed.

The next day I got in touch with my line Manager Joanne. What a lovely lady! We talked for about an hour and I felt so much more confident after that, so many great tips and learning points to consider from my first pamper. It’s supposed to be FUN, I’d actually not considered that during number one and forgot to let my hair down and enjoy it 😬. Onwards and upwards, party two here I come (with my FUN hat on!).

Needless to say, the next party was a blast. I did a little intro about the company, the great ethics, the great products, gave the facial then we all sat around trying everything on. I didn’t panic about what was in each product, I just had fun, and so did the girls. It was such a good way to all get together and have fun. The hostess gets 15% of sales to spend on free products, Sam came away that night with a decent free order, she got the Cleanser, Toner, Moisturiser, Eye refresh and a face mask – just from inviting the girls round and being generally awesome! Poles apart from party one so now I’ve got my Tropic mojo and I’m ready to run with it!

Pamper three, four, five and six went well, I’m loving using the products and when they’re as good as Tropics are its hard not to get enthusiastic and giddy about them!! I guess with Multi Level Marketing or Social Selling, whatever you want to call it,  it’s all about finding the company that gets you excited with products that you love 💜, then the rest is straightforward.

There are some small rewards with Tropic called ‘Leap Ahead’. If you achieve them in your first 90 days you get £140 to spend on free products. The first one is £250 of sales in the first 15 days… I did that in my first order so a £20 bonus was added to my account, thank you Tropic!! Then £500, then £1000  and finally £2000, each earning you credits on your account.

In 2 weeks I had sold £995 of products… roll on a few pampers and a few 1:1 facials and here I am with over £2000 of sales in my first 30 days. This leads to an extra bonus… A bag, a white bag, a gorgeous white bag, a gorgeous white Tropic kitbag! I’ve also earned £140 from the Leap Ahead bonuses which are credited to my account.

I also get to go on stage with Alan Sugar at the Glammies in recognition… More on that in September!

I also made it to a team meeting which was really great, full of inspirational women who were so encouraging and had lots of advise whilst we did a few fun workstations. Recognition seems to be a huge thing with Tropic and I left the meeting weighed down with various goodies for ‘Top Sales’ in my team and for being an Anteater… I can’t remember the last time I was appreciated in my job… Thank you Tropic!

I’m joining Tropic Skincare!!

Well, let me introduce myself. I’m a 36 year old mother of two and I’m pretty unsatisfied with my career at the moment. Home life is great, I have two (mostly) delightful kids,  but career… blurgh!

I was a Police Officer for Eleven years before being unable to go back after the birth of my second child. I kind of wanted to go back, (mostly just for the money) but it was made impossible with the inability to get childcare to cover all manner of shifts that were expected of me. My husband works away a lot, you see, so it was just going to be a bloody nightmare from start to finish. So, I spent the next two years thinking about what else I could do. I can sew curtains so maybe set up a curtain company? But my heart just isn’t in it. I want something less solitary, I need a team – maybe it’s the Police Officer in me, but it’s what I’m used to, it’s fun.

Then the Multi Level Marketing idea kept creeping into my mind, but I dismissed it thinking ‘No-one actually makes money out of it, do they?’… Well it turns out they do. Some people make a bit of ‘pocket money’ to fit round the kids, some make big bucks – I’ve met a lady in Lanzarote that has earnt over £1million doing it.

So then the research began. Which one? I was doing well at discounting each one I came across for a variety of reasons but then….

My sister came to visit me and showed me her Tropic skincare products. She bought them at a fair and was totally in love with them. I tried them and could see why, they smelt and felt amazing and so I looked them up. I recognised Susan Ma (from the Apprentice) immediately from the Tropic pictures and obviously Lord Alan Sugar who is a 50% owner of the business.

I read up; it’s natural, vegan, cruelty free, free from nasty chemicals, ethical, they recycle… Basically everything I want from my products. Plus they don’t use unsustainable Palm Oil so the Orangutans will still have their homes intact. The products are always winning new beauty awards and its a relatively new, very fast growing company.

It works by offering

Pampering 1:1 – Helping people pick the right products for their skin

Pamper Parties – You go and do a party at a hostess’ house, showcase the products and tell everyone how amazing they are (which they are), then get more parties on the back of it, and repeat! Plus the hostess gets a choice of free products, depending on how much is sold at the party!

Online – the company set you up with your website as soon as you join so it’s as easy as that!

So last week and met with Debbie, my local Platinum Manager. She was so lovely and chatted to me about how nice the company is and the opportunities to work part time or full time, it is what you make it basically,  I’m even more keen now than I was before to go back and get started.

I’m booking as many parties as I can to get myself started and get my friends and their friends excited about the products. If you inspire other people to join the party and become an Ambassador then you earn on their commission too and start working your way up the management ladder, if that’s what you want out of it, maybe it’s not?

Also they have Glambassador events where you all get dressed up in your sparkly frocks and bond. I love that idea. I always need some female party bonding, and an excuse to get dressed up is always welcome! These ladies look like they’re having a great time!

Can you tell I’m excited??

I WILL make this work, if not I’ll be back in the Police, and I’m not keen on that plan. This WILL work!
